All my life I knew what I wanted to do. I just didn’t know how I would do it and like most other people I got distracted along the way. However, when I wasn’t out partying, playing football or procrastinating, I had this great vision of telling beautiful stories of the world around me. I always believed that as Caribbean people we don’t appreciate our unique place in the world. It never seems glamorous enough, we like what we see coming from North America and Europe and Asia but not what it in our own Back yard.
I know better though. I grew up in a small part of a small island in the Caribbean sea, and living in Barbados as a boy I encountered the most intriguing stories, people, Places and things. As I got older my experiences only got … stranger. I came into contact with danger, comics, crime, sex, corruption, and many other themes which could make compelling stories.
I was fortunate to travel (a bit) and experience other countries and people from my small region. This only grew my passion for our uniqueness. The more I learned the more I felt compelled to share with those I met. But there are only so many people I can meet.
I believe everything happens for a reason, and so when I first got involved (quite unexpectedly) with video production I knew I had found my calling, but that was only the beginning. I had to learn all I could about producing videos, techniques, mentors, styles, equipment. Then came the challenges, getting the right equipment (at the best price), finding people to work with (making movies is a team sport), and the hardest of all finding the time.
As a student we always complain about not having enough time because of school, that as adults we complain about not having enough time because of work. The only way to find time to do something you want to do it to make time rather than making excuses.
That is why I created this blog, not only to share my stories with the world but to hold myself accountable to making time to do the things I want to do and to inspire others to do the same. We all have ideas but we spent too much time making excuses for why they cant work, “Its not the right time, I don’t have enough money, I am not where I want to be yet. I don’t know the right people.” I have made similar complaints, but the only way to really change this is by winning the lottery or by making a change in yourself” I’m not much of a gambling man so I chose the Latter.
So I invite you all to join me for this ride as I embark on the quest to be the best story teller I can be.
